PAGESPACE AND SCREEN TIME
Kristina Woolsey
Digital technologies support the capture, creation
and sharing of visual representations in ways that were hardly
imagined a few decades ago. They also enagle non-professionals
to extend their work from the page to the screen, from the static
to the dynamic. The general challenge is to provide everyone
with the skills to take advantage of the communications capabilities.
These technologies allow and enhance new media literacies. The
challenge for visual practitioners is to incorporate digital
technologies in ways that extend and support their work. |

GRAPHIC RECORDING
101 Brandy Agerbeck & Lynn Carruthers
Every year our conference welcomes both veterans
in the field and people completely new to the work. For those
who are just beginning (as well as those of you who want to
review/refresh/revive their skills) this year we offer a UNIQUE
training session. It's nearly a full day, with lots of hands-on
exercises, tips of the trade, and a great workbook that will
help you CONTINUE to build your skills after the conference.
The co-presenters
will be Brandy Agerbeck, of Loosetooth.com, an independent
graphic facilitator with 10 years of experience with corporate
clients, and Lynn Carruthers, with 6 years of experience as
in internal graphic recorder with Global Business Newtwork.
Brandy and Lynn are designing a turbo-training: chock full
of exercises and different perspectives. Everyone is welcome
to this session. Graphic Recording 101 is included in the
conference fee, with basic materials included. A materials
list will be sent if you prefer to bring your own tools.

VISUALS: A CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR FOR ACHIEVING CHANGE IN COMMUNITY
GROUPS
Carl Moore
The shift from individualism to community is
a defining characteristic of our times. So how can facilitators
help people create the kind of community they want to live within?
What are key strategies, and, especially, what are distinct
ways that graphics can be used to aid in the process? |

THE
5 SITUATIONS IN COMMUNITY GROUPS WHERE VISUALS ARE CRITICAL
TO ACHIEVING CHANGE
Carl Moore
Typically groups are used to generate,
develop and select between ideas. There are many productive
ways to help groups generate (e.g., brainstorming) ideas
and even some universally useful ways to develop ideas
(e.g., action planning). The hardest task is to get
groups to select between ideas. This session will present
innovative ways to help groups make choices. |

PITCH
PROPOSAL GROUP CHALLENGE
Paula Hansen & Michelle Filiccicchia
So, how do you really sell Graphic Recording
anyway?
Come and hear powerful ideas on how to effectively pitch
work to a new client, and to make your own proposal more
needs-oriented and streamlined. After an idea review,
participants will be put in groups and given a finite
amount of time to come up with a solid pitch for a specific
typical Graphic Recording job. Each group will present
before a panel of judges (made up of clients and senior
recorders) who will choose the best pitch
and tell
you WHY they picked it! This session will be invaluable
learning for recorders at every level! |

DIGITAL
NATIVES AND VISUAL PRACTICE
Rachel S. Smith
What can digital natives -- people who
have grown up immersed in technology -- teach us about
visual practice? The tools young people use for work
and play open up a whole realm of opportunities, from
a new symbology to new technologies for creating and
sharing visual records. This session will introduce
you to the visual language of the online world, demonstrate
a handful of technologies that can work with your existing
techniques, and stimulate discussion on new forms of
visual communication.

GRAPHICS JAM!
Lynn
Carruthers
Saturday evening after dinner is The
IFVP Graphics Jam! This year's host, Lynn Carruthers, will
call out frequently heard terms/concepts/words (you know those
words.... when you're recording and wish you had an icon or
image to retrieve from your memory, i.e. "innovation."
but just can't come up with one at that moment), and everyone
quickly draws an icon/image. The results are a fascinating -
and very useful - array of different, powerful icons for you
to add to your repertoire. |
