Pre-conference Workshops – Saturday, July 30

On July 30 - August 2, 2016 the global community of visual practitioners will convene at the IFVP’s  21st Annual Conference in Washington, DC, USA. Over 200 people from all walks of life, driven by many different passions, will stand united as visual practitioners. This year’s theme, “United We Scribe”  is not just a ‘patriotic nod to our city’, it is also a nod to the great work that we all can achieve - together - today and as we each leave the conference and return home.

This annual gathering of IFVP members is more than just a conference, it is an experience! The conference will be highly interactive and designed to further strengthen the visual practice community and explore some of the practice’s leading edges. It will offer 20+ workshop sessions with opportunities to learn from mentors in the field, to grow your skill set and to explore new tools and methodologies. Our sessions will be framed around these four tracks:

Fundamentals of Visual Practice: In college lingo, this track is visual practice 101.  It’s about mastering the basic tool kit of graphic recording and graphic facilitation - from developing a visual library to synthesizing the conversation, to facilitating a room.  The workshops in this track are appropriate for both those new to the field and those that want to brush up on skills.

Enhancing your Skills: As a seasoned practitioner, are you are seeking to expand the impact of your practice? Perhaps you are looking for new creative tools  Elevate your skills with these sessions delivered by leaders in our field. From template development to deep listening, prepare to advance your expertise - and your career!

Visual Organization Development: What exactly is Organization Development (OD)? How can you leverage the principles and practices of OD in your graphic facilitation practice? Explore these questions and how your colleagues are breaking ground in the OD world by bringing new energy with visual practice.

Business Development: Are you looking for the confidence to jumpstart your business idea? Or maybe you are ready to take your business to the next level? These sessions will provide you with the tools and the confidence to take that next step.

See you soon in DC!

Why I can’t wait to attend the IFVP DC 2016 Conference (and hope to see you there!)

We’re counting down to July. IFVP’s Annual Conference is the place for visual practitioners, graphic recorders, facilitators and visual storytellers from across the globe to gather every year. Whether you’re a seasoned practitioner or a newbie, here are just a few of the delights in store for you.

  1. Ah-mazing keynotes: Have you heard?  We have Lisa Kay Solomon and Scott McCloud speaking. In addition, we’re delighted to have Brandy Agerbeck on the stage.

  2. Our (hilarious) returning emcee: Julie Gieseke will be returning to keep things on point at the conference. Check out her take on our profession last year.

  3. 20+ enriching, diverse breakouts sessions: We’ll have tracks with sessions  for people new to the field and for seasoned practitioners. We’ll also have tracks on business development, visual organizational development, sessions on digital work, sketchnoting and more.

  4. Pre-conference workshops that rock: Take the learning deeper.  You’ll want to come slightly earlier and choose from these four fabulous sessions

  5. “The Big Listen”: Got a story to tell? Let’s hear it. We will identify the topic. You submit your name. We pull 4 names from the hat and invite you to tell a story, as others sit back and listen.

  6. Free Professional Photography Headshots by Ray Martinez: Need a new headshot? Show up during the breaks and Ray will capture a customized portrait for you (ps: you can draw your own backdrop! How cool is that?!)

  7. IFVP’s Got Talent & Dinner ShowYou’re good with markers, we know that! What are your real hidden - or not so hidden - talents? Come one, come all to the conference talent show, where we’ll feature the diverse and entertaining abilities of our global group. Sign up here!

  8. Experimenting with new products at the Neuland booth. Who is ready to try out that new black paper with the white markers! Be sure to leave some space in your luggage when you pack to take home all your new goodies!

  9. Meeting your tribe: You’ll spend three full days and more with people who actually “get” you.

  10. Washington DC: This amazing city! We have 17 FREE Smithsonian Museums, historic monuments and Tian Tian - the adorable giant panda you saw rolling in the snow. There is so much to explore in the city and we can’t wait to show off our hometown!
