IFVP March Board of Directors Meeting

The IFVP Board of Directors met for our regular monthly meeting. We are particularly grateful to Jilly and Phil who are attending our meetings around midnight their time! After checking in, we recentered ourselves with our purpose, mission and vision statements:

We serve IFVP members.

Our members are: Individuals Agencies In-house employees Our Purpose: As an international organization, IFVP energizes authentic connections for a generous global community of visual practitioners by enhancing professional and learning development through collaboration and valuable resources.

Our Mission: We are committed to energizing authentic connections for a generous global community of visual practitioners by enhancing professional and learning development through collaboration and valuable resources.

We reviewed our financial and membership reports, noting that we have a small operating deficit that could be met by adding a handful of members. While we have reserves to cover this, as board directors we are responsible for the financial viability of the organization, so we are thinking about plans for a membership campaign based on our personas and value propsition work, and also working to plan our 2024 Global Summit to be a financial break-even or to make a contribution to our reserves.

We discussed plans for the 2023 Regional meetings and agreed that they could be large or small, and that regions could hold them when it makes sense for them rather than trying to coordinate them at the same time globally. After the regions have held their meetings we are hoping to gather materials to share from each. You can see from the last round of regional meetings that we developed a solid treasure trove of amazing materials.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR REGIONAL GATHERING HOSTS. If you want to raise your hand, just let us know and we can discuss more of the details.

We discussed the 2024 Global Summit. We appointed a review committee to receive and review proposals for making a recommendation to the board. We are hoping to set this by the end of June. There are three potential sites of interest at this point, but we are hoping for more hands to be raised (potentially for 2026 and 2028 also if possible).

WE ARE LOOKING FOR PROPOSALS ABOUT OUR GLOBAL SUMMIT SITES. f you want to raise your hand, just let us know and we can discuss more of the details.

We discussed the user experience of our website and thought about ways to make small changes over time. Our personas project will help us to think about changes to be made.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR MEMBERS TO BE ACTIVE IN MAKING BLOG POSTS. We are grateful to Susan Kelly for her series of posts/stories, and we hope this will encourage more members to blog. Every member has the ability to post blogs from their profile page (when you are signed in). We want to remind members that they are also able to post events from their profile page.

We finished our meeting with a discussion of survey questions that we intend to send out in the next month. We are hoping for a broad sample of visual practitioners, both members and non-members, to help us understand the global and regional realities, which will help us with meeting our goal of providing value to members (and to see what non-members might find valuable).

We are grateful to be in service to our generous global community of visual practitioners. As the premier international association for our practice, we want to take seriously our opportunity to support members by promoting productive interactions from which we can learn together. Thanks for being part of our community!
