Mapping the history and breadth of visual processes

Graphic recording, visual facilitation, sketchnoting, scribing, mind-mapping, and generative scribing are all names for the work that pairs words and images to facilitate groups make change, learn, plan, and document, etc. (All the uses, well, that’s another topic.) Want to learn more about it’s history? Here are four articles by leaders in the field: Kelvy Bird, David Sibbet, Christina Merkely, and Susan Kelly. The map above was developed by Mathias Weitbrecht and David Sibbet (with input from many conference participants at the EuViz conference in 2018) in an effort to visualize the entire network of visual practice. Also see Susan Kelly's map and Christina Merkely's maps.
