How many years have you worked as a visual practitioner?
1 year as my own business

How did you come to the field of visual practice?
During my tenure in the corporate world, many consulting companies used visual practitioners in their brainstorming and collaboration sessions and I got hooked!

What do you love most about IFVP?
A welcoming network that accepted me immediately and made me confident that I could pursue this as my new career direction.

Why did you join the IFVP board?
A chance to expand my network of visual practitioners to learn from and grow with as well as to be able to bring my long history and experience of working in the corporate world to benefit and grow the forum.

What would you like to accomplish during your time as an IFVP board member?
Take IFVP to the next level…whatever that level should be!

Share what you think our field needs to get to the next level.
I feel like we are just breaking into the mainstream of being a needed and vital service to teams and organization – we need to bring our service to a level where it would be unthinkable not to have a visual practitioner at your meeting or event!

Share a story about a time you were using visual facilitation (funny, surprising, a lesson learned, an experience with a great speaker or the participants, anything you’d like)
I just had my first experience with a truly awful presenter on a topic that was already set up to be dull!  And worse yet, when I looked at the audience, they knew it as immediately as I did!  So, what to do…?  After a few minutes of racking my brain as to what I could do to fill the white space of my foam board, I just started to doodle, drawing different icons that I have practiced before the presentation, hoping I would use them…every now and again the presenter made a interesting comment or observation and I was quick to add in those words throughout the evolving graphic.  At the end, I stood back and was amazed at what I created from nothing…and it was so satisfying that multiple audience members approached me afterwards claiming how amazed they were that I was able to pull ANYTHING out of the talk.  Many said the presentation was so much better because I had been there.  Wow – talk about an ego boost!

Who are some people in the field of visual practice you admire, aspire to learn from, and/or work with? Why?
This is a hard question and a tough one to narrow down…I find a little something that I like with everyone whom I meet – either at the IFVP conferences, online, or from the many books I have read on this topic.  I think there is something to learn from everyone!

Share a recording or piece of work you created you are proud of. Please explain what it is, why you are proud, what you struggled with, what was easy, which filters you were using to choose content, etc. Tell the story behind it.
Lessons Learned from 1000 years of Global CIO Experience was one of the first visuals I recorded for an industry conference.  I was so nervous that I drew the caveman and the title the night before so I would not be rushed with it.  The speaker was excellent and easy to follow and the material was familiar having been a CIO myself.  One of my favorites…

Are you part of any other associations, guilds, etc.? Which ones and why?
Project Management Institute (PMI) – I have been a Project Manager for most of my career and I am PMP (Project Management Professional) certified.  A good fallback as I build my practice during the slow times!

How many years have you worked as a visual practitioner?
6 years

How did you come to the field of visual practice?
A colleague who experienced graphic recording in a corporate meeting suggested that I should consider doing it for a living.

What do you love most about IFVP?
Community (duh!)

Why did you join the IFVP board?
The IFVP was instrumental in in helping me get my practice off the ground, and I wanted to give something back to the community—to “pay it forward.”

What would you like to accomplish during your time as an IFVP board member?
I want to support the growth and development of our organization through servant leadership, and hope that my presence will provide positive energy to the group.

Share what you think our field needs to get to the next level.
I believe that we need to continue to strive for a climate of sustainability and collaboration which not only aligns us with our internal goals—to maintain a strong international presence at the leading edge of our industry, but also externally—with our partners in the field (such as the IAF, ICF, and EuViz) as well.

Share a story about a time you were using visual facilitation (funny, surprising, a lesson learned, an experience with a great speaker or the participants, anything you’d like):
After a week of hard work and wonderful collaboration in Georgia, a group of IFVP members and I wanted to express our gratitude to the tireless workers who helped to make the facility such a perfect venue for our event…so, we gathered the last remnants of foam-core, Gorilla tape, and markers to create a seven foot tall bouquet of flowers/thank you card that was subsequently signed by all the members in attendance.  When it was presented, there wasn’t a dry eye in the place, and I was again reminded of how proud I am to be in community with the wonderful and inspiring group of people that is the IFVP.

Who are some people in the field of visual practice you admire, aspire to learn from, and/or work with? Why?
(OMG, there are too many to list, but I’ll try…)

Tim Hamons is an awesome guy—I want to be him when (if) I grow up.

Dave Sibbet is a pioneer, and I believe that’s how we change the world (and hopefully make it a better place!)

Brandy Agerbeck has an amazing spirit…and, having forged her own path, is encouraging others to do the same.

- Lynn Carruthers and Jenny Trautman have set a great example for me by providing servant leadership and (along with countless other board members) having poured out their hearts for the organization.

Christina Merkley is leading the charge for professional training with a number of creative training programs—both on-site and online.

Leah Silverman and Katherine Torrini continue to inspire me with their talent, energy, and creativity…but the truth is, everyone in the IFVP that I’ve been lucky enough to meet and/or work with has blessed me in some special and significant way.

(…can I just say “all” here?)

At a gathering of around 800 people in Cincinnati, I was asked to lead a team of 6 graphic recorders in creating a visual transcript of what was to be an important community event.  Our team was able to scale up our efforts to match the size and significance of the event by utilizing an army of interns who helped to collect and distribute custom handouts that provided the team with feedback from those in attendance, and by building four large, 3D displays that were made up of individual foam-core shapes which had been recorded on by the different IFVP members from various locations around the room. The result was a dramatic and powerful display of the kind of impact our work can have, and I was extremely proud to have been a part of such a talented and hard-working team.

My opinion

Kim and Greg are new board members at International forum of Visual practitioners, IFVP. Kim has been working since one and Greg is in this line from last six years. They said that other members of IFVP welcomed them and it is their honor to work with them. You try to know more about https://www.analyzedu.com/ but there a lot of good content about the board members.
