Open Call for Bids: the Newsletter Editor position

IFVP members tell us that maintaining a regular cadence of communication centered around our community and learning is one of the most important benefits we offer. We deliver this with our newsletter. Regular publication of our newsletter drives many of our new and renewing memberships. In the past, an IFVP member served as editor of the newsletter on a volunteer basis. It was a big job and we offer a hat tip of appreciation to those who held it. Thank you!
 
Given the importance of the IFVP Newsletter to maintain our community connections, your Board of Directors has decided to activate another request members made in our last member survey and hire some professional help.
 
We have come to realize the position of newsletter editor must be a paid position to ensure continuous communication and content curation as well as creation. In this realization, we also acknowledge this paid editor has to have passion for our field, our membership, and our work. Who better to fill this position  than our membership?
 
We are curious to know if our monthly newsletter editor is among the membership. Do you have experience managing a monthly newsletter? Do you consider yourself of lover of words, a writer of ideas and thoughts, a creator of dynamic content, an editor of copy and imagery? Can you manage people and facilitate the process required to deliver compelling content on a monthly basis?
 
This paid position will include/encompass four (4) roles and include the following responsibilities:
  • Newsletter Editor:
    • Manage and execute the Newsletter Content calendar;
    • Pitch, research, interview, write, and edit articles/blog posts;
    • Format, edit, test, and send the newsletter using Constant Contact and www.IFVP.org;
    • Archive previous newsletter editions;
    • Monitor, review and report newsletter performance, making recommendations for improvement
  • Project Manager:
    • Manage contributors and volunteers;
    • Establish and improve newsletter content creation process, documentation, and archiving
    • Plan, assign, monitor and track progress of content by various creators;
    • Escalate any issues with newsletter/website/blog to Communications committee
    • Oversee and manage the process and tools,
    • Make recommendations to improve content, process, etc.
  • IFVP Website content and copy editor:
    • As needed, repurpose newsletter copy for the IFVP website and blog posts
  • Social Media messaging:
    • As needed, repurpose newsletter content to craft messaging for social media channels
The Job:
  • Estimated total amount of hours per month: 20 hours
  • Take direction from the Communications and Newsletter Committees
  • Liaise with Launa Post, IFVP member coordinator
  • Measure and improve the process, the tools, the content
Requirements for Qualification:
  • Current and active IFVP member
  • Previous experience managing a newsletter
  • Previous experience volunteering with the IFVP
  • Experience with IFVP community
  • Familiar with Constant Contact and the blog function on the IFVP website
Proposal Requirements:
  • Please include an hourly rate for 20 hours of work a month
  • Must include:
    • Writing sample
    • Links or sample of previous newsletter/articles
    • Previous IFVP volunteer experience
    • Demonstrate knowledge of IFVP processes and tools
  • Submission deadline: March 5th. Submissions received after 11:59PM EST of March 5, 2018 will not be considered.
